Sacrifices

A piece of Canadian Heritage, The Red Serge uniform symbolizes law enforcement for over a hundred years in Canada. While the Sacrifices we make when our members take risks while on duty are obvious, as shown here by the blue mourning ribbon, spouses also sacrifice their own close family ties when they follow their partners to new postings. The gloves, crafted by an aboriginal artisan, symbolize the connection between the members and the often isolated aboriginal communities they live and work in. Although the indicator of rank on this serge is obscured, the silver medal is given for dedication to duty showing that which truly defines a member. The lace curtains symbolize the spouse leaving behind a pension or career to stand behind their mountie. The ultimate sacrifice is a couple leaving their adult children behind to continue in service of the RCMP. This bright red tunic takes over lives much as it takes over this painting. Oil on Canvas - 22X30. Giclees available.
